What Now?

Dear Kerby,

Do you ever have one of those days when you forget something or grab the wrong things? I bet bears never have this problem. I was on my way to class when I realized I grabbed the wrong binder. I felt a little out of place. Good thing I did not need need any of the notes for this class I just needed paper.

I have a binder for ever class because it seems, to me, better than a notebook. Notebooks have a lot of disadvantages for me:

  • you can not add more pages as or where needed
  • you make a mess when taking a page out if the wrong notebook is purchased
  • hard to pick out a notebook for me

I like the binder because:

  • they can be stylish
  • they keep me organized
  • I love that I can always add paper and remove paper with ease

When I was in middle school I tried notebooks and my mom got me the 10¢ cheap ones. My mom being a mom simply trying to save money. I always hated when I had to turn something in. The teacher hated paper fringe from tearing them out. What a big mess. This also made the notebook look like a mess. No one tells you what to buy; they only make suggestions like when you to to Walmart and they have class lists of what is needed for the school year.

I can understand how bears feel about us humans killing your trees. I got this under wraps because I do recycle my notes when done with any class. I do not feel so bad about yesterday now. Now, if I don't let it happen again, everyone will be happier.

Shoot It

Dear Kerby,

Since my Nikon DSLR was purchased around mid '00 I have seen many advances in cameras. More and more of them now have movie mode built right in. That is like taking my Sony Handycam and merging it with the Nikon. This be nice with the interchangeable lens option. Who needs more megapixils when you do not make the picture that big any how.

I was out taking some photos with my dad and he asked about my Holga lens adapters for the Holga lens I had on my Nikon. This was not the first time he has seen me use them. He asked to borrow them since he has his own Holga lens for his camera, that I got him for Christmas. Can not wait to see how his photos turn out.

My next move might be to get a Holga pinhole lens for the Nikon. I do know that around the edges have a massive amount of blur. From what I have seen, this can be good or bad depending on the subject.

Oh No You Didn't!

Dear Kerby,

I had a meeting with housing. Yesterday afternoon I did. Bet bears never have to deal with this housing concept. I straight up told them was going on. She does think I have an attitude problem. She kept saying to rephrase things. Overall, I am to talk to them as a person instead of phrase things like I do.

In my mind I kept thinking about how they treat me an ignore me. They never want to do anything with me. Not watch tv, listen to music, eat with me, or talk to me. I am equal opportunity: I ignore them like they ignore me.

When I got done with this meeting I thought how would Fred Sanford, Archie Bunker, George Jefferson, and Clair Huxtable would have handled it. They would lay down the law and not go for any of this touchy feely crap. That is what made them so enjoyable to watch on sitcoms. I did learn something from tv or my brother it is take crap from no one. That is why I partially look up to my brother.

Re-Art

Dear Kerby,

The other day I wanted to start a piece of artwork. I had a few sketches in a notebook of mine that have been dying to be produced. I know how to sketch and make things look nice. Most of the time but not all I can produce something worthwhile in a digital format (the computer). This time my art was translated into something horrible like a piece of bad clipart you might see on a slideshow presentation. It was bad. In my spare time I have that piece to recreate and a few others to finish.

It is nice that for a school project you can use what you have on file and just fit it to the new project. I had an illustration of something that looked like a skeleton with a guitar. This illustration was rarely used. I found it in my archives. Pulled it out, resized it, and recolored it. I was so happy that I could work with an existing piece instead of trying to create something new. This is why I am trying to finish my other work. I do like having a ton of things on file. This lets me have options instead of having overplayed art.

Happening Again

Dear Kerby,

It is happening again. Every time a new font comes out that is nicely design I notice that everyone has to use it. This is the way to the no designer people do graphics. As a designer I would evaluate the font to see if it even fits into the project that I happen to be working on. The one I am seeing pop up the most is the Lobster Font. Yes, I can spot it. I am not telling where I get my fonts/ideas because I have the feeling that someone will try to overuse them.

The next thing I have notices are bad graphics. Print on demand shirt companies are bring me down. Do you know how many bad graphics they are promoting? Have you ever spotted a good design, if so, what is was it?

I want to enter a shirt design contest from none other than Craigslist. These people seriously need help. How can they call themselves a company. My best man told me that they are bringing me down with bad graphics. He also said that I should do some branding for them. After I submit a design I could possible win $250 by having them select my designs. I am not quite sure how many people are going to enter.

Bad Covers

Dear Kerby,

For a good cause. Yes, thanks to Ellen and Spotify I am now listening to Chimes of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International. I am a big Bob Dylan fan and some of these covers are good and some are just bad but I give them credit. My bad covers include Lenny Keravitz, Maroon 5, and many others. Some of these artists try to make it sound like Bob Dylan himself. If you do that I would rather choose the original version. While other artists like Ke$ha, Carly Simon, Miley Cyrus and many other try to own the song. Nice to see them put a spin on his song. Some of the good artist are the ones I would not mind hearing more Bob Dylan covers or any other covers from

You have to know what to get when you do an album with various artists. I just need to get more music back on my iPod and I will not have to listen to this album so much. I do like the cloud idea but I am not paying to use it. With last.fm, Pandora, and Sporify among other I am finding new songs to listen to all the time. Right now I just want to organize my iTunes right before it goes crazy one me, plus it is hard to remember the hundreds of songs/artists you once owned.

Right The First Time

Dear Kerby,

Lately, a certain type of people have been pissing me off. These are the people that use a text program such as the phone or any other app that is text based chat. I have a iOS app where you meet people. This guy says he likes me but then never makes conversation over text. That is the purpose of the app. If you do not like to text and make conversation over text then do not use the app, it is not for you. Learn how to communicate and make conversation.

My iPad has done a lot for me since I got it. Wish I had a Mac because, from what I know, the new version can run the iOS app. This must that Apple was thinking smart. Some technology updates are not a good idea. Every two years, or so, is the time any programs lasts and then you are forced to update. This happens with Adobe and hopefully Windows does not go that way with Windows 8. Heck, I might be out of date since I do not have enough money to go along with all these updates every time a new one happens to be published.

Trade In?

Dear Kerby,

You must know how it is when one spends your money. My parents get mad at me when the film in my camera does not turn out right. Well, my dad does. He makes a big deal about me owning a DSLR (Nikon D70). I do use it as well as my other cameras. This must be why I am looking at investing in film lenses such as Holga and Diana for my DSLR. Digital does not come close to film. No Way.

I do love the feel love having the interchangeable lenses but hate the chunky body of something like the D70. This is just too much to log around for just simple snap shots. Plus who wants a snap shot to be poster size? This is why I have been looking at micro 4/3 cameras. They look so cool. Holga does make a 4/3 lens. Wish I could trade my DSLR in for one, maybe?
